Changes in the use of second homes

The presented thesis deals with the phenomenon of second homes, specifically the change in the use of recreational properties due to socio-economic changes. Second homes began to develop in the Czech Republic in the early 20th century, and experienced significant growth since the 1960s. The thesis discusses the transformation of second homes into permanent residences at the turn of the second and third decades of the 21st century. The researched area, Hradec near Kadaň, is located in the Ústí nad Labem Region of the Czech Republic. The main objective of the thesis is to characterize the changes in behavior of second home owners and the utilization of these second home locations in relation to social and economic changes. To achieve this objective, several research methods were employed. The practical part is supplemented by a theoretical section, which includes a review of not only Czech but also international literature and professional articles addressing the issue of second homes and the impact of social and economic changes in society. Current geographical research on second homes deals with the complex of phenomena, processes and activities associated with objects of individual recreation. Modern society is characterized by changes leading to an increase in holidays and an increase in the proportion of free time, which is highly emphasized. One of its components is the already mentioned recreation. People spend their free time in different ways. One of them is the performance of activities second homes. Literature and many other sources deal with the study of cottages and weekend houses. Today there are also studies on new trends in the form of buying and owning apartment houses, tents or caravans. This diploma thesis discusses theoretical approaches to the research of another phenomenon, which is houseboats used as objects of second homes. Through Czech and foreign professional articles and other relevant materials, approaches to defining the term houseboat were discussed, the phenomenon of houseboats in Czech and foreign conditions was explained in the context of historical development and the system of recreation, tourism and the use of free time, as well as the evaluation of houseboats as objects used for second homes and to the residence function. Internationalization of second home tourism. Mallorca case study

This paper illustrates recent processes of internationalization of second home tourism based on detailed research of the Spanish insular destination Mallorca as a case study. German second home owners are especially emphasised within the paper as they predominate on the island in terms of international ownership (as well the anual amount of tourist arrivals). The paper includes discussion on teoretical aspects of second home tourism with focus on latest trends such as international ownership of second homes and retirement migration. Empirical part describes second home tourism on Mallorca within the context of its historical development, spacial organization and using patterns. The key part of the research is questionnaire survey which has been conducted in order to find resident's perception of German second home owners in municipalities Andratx and Deiá.
Transport Accessibility of Second Homes: Selected Localities in the Benešov Region

This thesis deals with the differentiation of the accessiblity of second-homes facilities, primarily using means of public transport. The first part adresses the problem with the published literature. Second part deals with a case study carried out in selected localities of the Benešov region. Transport accessibility was observed at two levels - frequency and temporal. In addition to the current accessibility, the historical development since the beginning of the eighties was found out. Following the changes in public transport, the consecutive integrating of particular localities into the integrating transport system was also observed.
Formation of regional identity in the inner periphery Czech; case study Neveklov region

This diploma thesis had two basic aims. The first was an analysis of the processes shaping regional identity particularly of the study area of Neveklovsko and the identification of the inner potential in the region from the socio-economic and sociocultural aspects. The second aim was to identify the differences in the various areas of Czech region, specifically the high concentration of settlements with a predominately tourist and recreational function, where the research was conducted within the grant project. The research was carried out on using a field survey and questionnaire. The Neveklovsko area is an example of a rural area of the inner periphery containing a high concentration of settlements with the predominating tourist and recreational function. The Second World War played an important role in shaping regional identity, particularly because of forced displacements and its use as a training ground of the SS. Transport accessability related to second home tourism in peripheral regions

This diploma thesis focuses on accessibility and serviceability second homes in the inner periphery, respectively, in the model region "Hranice krajů-Středozápad" as well as analysis and assessment of the second homes with the possibility of a future transformation to permanent housing. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the characteristics of the second homes, transport accessibility and public transport not only in the Czech Republic. Analyzes commuting to recreation in various fields and further acquainted with the problems of peripheral areas. The empirical part is based on the data obtained from the analysis of public transport, statistical yearbooks and survey, which took place in the model region "Hranice krajů- Středozápad". The area is monitored to determine what kinds of vehicles are used by second homes owners for leisure travel and the transport infrastructure facilities. Also is detecting the demand for public transport and its offer for owners of second homes. Geographical Aspects of Leisure: The Importance of Leisure for Shaping of Social Capital and Local Identities

The thesis discusses the importance of leisure as a part of an individual's everyday life for the formation of social relationships and ties influencing whole society. In fact, leisure is understood as a sample of practices and activities with underlying social and cultural factors. These practices are allocated in time and space, having an impact on space. The study is devoted to the use of leisure, its position and importance in the general time framework of a day. There is also a discussion of the trends and shifts in society associated with broader cultural and institutional processes (transformation of the labour market, globalisation, individualisation, differentiation, post-communist transformation, and the gender question). In addition, the study empirically examines the importance and potential of leisure activities for the formation of place attachment and associated processes of the creation of social capital, contact networks and knowledge transfer. Through these effects, leisure can contribute to the endogenous development of distinct types of area. In fact, attention is focused on two ways of leisure time activities with a considerable local tie and potential for the creation of social capital. Past and present of Jívák settlement

The aim of this thesis is to conduct research of entire history of Jivák settlement in Central Bohemian region since its establishment in 1926 to the year of 2016. Importance of so-called normalization and transformation era will be stressed in this work. The author will also try to track certain matches or disagreements in the area of everyday life, coexistence with other settlers or participation on settlement's events based on interviews conducted with settlers of various age. Another aim of this work is to compare settlement's social life before and after the year 1989. Last but not least, author will try to find out, whether Jivak settlement served as a shelter from political and social reality in 1948-1989 Czechoslovakia. Possibilities of second home development in neighbourhood of the former Military Region Brdy Abstract This diploma thesis deals with the topic of second homes in the villages in the outskirts of the former Military Region Brdy in the Pilsen region. These villages got back parts of their cadastral area, which were taken away in 1949 when the military area was established. These villages are specifically Borovno, Míšov, Spálené Poříčí, Trokavec, Skořice, Mirošov, Štítov, Strašice, Dobřív and Těně. The aim of the thesis is to define the state and possible future of second home tourism in the area of interest, in connection with the potential which the area gained with the establishment of the Protected Landscape area Brdy on 1st January of 2016. The first part of the thesis contains theoretical input into the issue, attention is focused on second homes and tourism in connection with demilitarization and in relation to nature protection. In the second part the study area is characterized from the socio and physical - geographic point of view, the potential for tourism is also analysed.
